WHAT IS YOGA NIDRA?
This is a deeply relaxing class that begins with yin style postures and gentle movement. Then the teacher will share the practice of Yoga Nidra (which means ‘Yogic Sleep’) - a guided meditation practice that transitions your mind and body into a profound state of conscious relaxation. You simply lie or sit in a comfortable position and listen to the teacher’s voice as they take you through the different stages of the practice. Here is an article with more information about Yoga Nidra.
This class is a limited series, running for seven weeks at a time. Each week the focus will be on one of the seven main Chakras. Dani will guide students into various Yin postures to stimuate the chakra centres, as well as offering affirmations for a chance to reflect and conduct personal enquiry as part of the practice.
Chakra means “wheel” and refers to energy points in your body. They are thought to be spinning disks of energy that should stay “open” and aligned, as they correspond to bundles of nerves, major organs, and areas of our energetic body that affect our emotional and physical well-being.
The seven chakras are the Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Third Eye and Crown. The Yin yoga sequence for each class will help to gently stimulate and balance one (or two) of these centres so that the energy starts to flow.
This is not a course, and these are not workshops. You can book using your usual membership or class pass, and you can come to one, many or all of them.
Our hips do a huge amount for us every day - helping us walk, run, cycle, bend, and move through the world with stability. Yet modern life often leaves them feeling anything but happy. Long hours of sitting, repetitive movement patterns, and muscle imbalances can all create tightness, weakness, or discomfort around this important joint.
Happy, Healthy Hips is a supportive workshop designed to help you understand what your hips truly need: balance. For some of us, that means more mobility. For others, more strength and stability. And for many, it’s a bit of both.
In this session we’ll explore clear, accessible yoga movements that stretch what may be tight, strengthen what may be underused, and bring more harmony to the muscles and tissues surrounding the hip joint. We’ll consider the commonly used term “hip-openers” to understand what that really means, as well as why every body will feel and move differently depending on its unique bone structure.
Curious about moving with more ease, less pain, and deeper awareness? Join Dani Affleck for a 2-hour Intro to Somatics workshop.
Inspired by the work of Thomas Hanna, this session will gently introduce you to the powerful practice of listening to your body from the inside out. You’ll explore concepts like pandiculation, somatic awareness, and sensory-motor amnesia, as well as common movement patterns such as the red light, green light, and trauma reflexes that shape how we hold tension.
This course with Dani takes you through the fundamentals of the practice in structured weekly classes. This course is great if you are brand new to yoga or for anyone wanting to refresh their knowledge of the main principles of yoga and ease back into the practice after a time away.
Lion's Gate Cacao & Sound Ceremony
8 August | A Portal of Possibility
Each year on 8 August, the Lion's Gate Portal reaches its peak, marking a powerful celestial alignment between Earth, the Sun in Leo, Sirius and Orion's Belt. Revered since ancient Egyptian times, Sirius was seen as a star of renewal, abundance and new beginnings.
The Lion's Gate occurs during Leo season, a time associated with courage, heart-centred living, creativity and authentic self-expression. Combined with the numerological power of 8, symbolising balance, abundance and infinite potential, it is considered one of the most potent energetic windows of the year for intention, reflection and transformation.
Through the grounding medicine of cacao and the immersive resonance of sound, we will gather to attune to the potent encoded energies of the Lion's Gate Portal, creating space to release what is complete, clear old patterns and limitations, and reconnect with the deeper wisdom, purpose and potential seeking expression through us.
Together, we will honour the lessons of the path behind us while opening to the possibilities that lie ahead. This is an invitation to listen deeply, soften into the wisdom of the heart, and align with the highest expression of who you are becoming.
May this afternoon serve as your own threshold moment — an opportunity to step beyond old limitations, reconnect with your inner power, and move forward with greater clarity, purpose and trust.
Join us for an afternoon of cacao, sound, reflection and intention as we gather beneath the energy of the Lion's Gate Portal.

Inversions can feel like a big, intimidating hurdle in a yoga practice. For some, they’re poses to avoid; for others, they become such a fixed goal that it’s easy to lose sight of the purpose of the practice itself. In this workshop, we’ll take a grounded, balanced approach - treating these shapes just like any other posture: something to explore safely, intelligently, and with patience.
Headstand and Shoulder stand offer much more than the ‘wow’ factor. Shifting some weight into your arms and upper body can feel empowering, it can also strengthen the mind–body connection, encouraging focus, presence, and trust in your own capacity.
The workshop will begin with a short flow to warm the body, emphasising shoulder opening, strength building and foundational alignment. You’ll then be guided step by step through the building blocks of headstand and shoulderstand: preparations, alignment, strength work, and safe entry and exit. Props and the wall will be used to reduce pressure on the neck and support your journey upside down.
JUST BE
A cacao and sound journey returning you to the Source Intelligence of your heart.
Just Be. Two simple words that carry a deeper invitation from the unseen realms. In a world filled with urgency, noise and uncertainty, our souls are quietly calling us back to a place of stillness within. A place beyond effort and identity where the truth of who we are naturally lives. To Just Be is to release the masks we wear and soften out of the constant doing that the world demands. When we allow ourselves to rest in presence, something profound begins to happen. The soul becomes easier to hear. The body softens. Our natural state of peace begins to return.
This cacao and sound journey opens a gentle doorway into that space.
With heart opening cacao and immersive sound, we will create a sanctuary where you are invited to lay down the weight of the world for a while and reconnect with the deeper intelligence that lives within you.

This afternoon offers a wonderful opportunity to retreat, allowing yourself to relax deeply and engage in nurturing and compassionate rest.
This experiential workshop will include iRest® Yoga Nidra Meditation as well as Restorative Yoga. Open to all levels – students, teachers, and anyone interested in Yoga, meditation, kindness and self-care.
"I have been offering The Big Relax on Waiheke Island where I live for many years, and I am so excited to be bringing it to Auckland and the beautiful Yoga Ground."
If you spend time on a bicycle, whether it’s for road cycling, mountain biking or your commute, this will be a great workshop to help you improve your cycling posture and to learn how to look after your body and balance out the postural tendencies of all that pedal power.
The repetitive nature of cycling biomechanics and the cycling posture itself create physical imbalances, not so dissimilar to sitting. And given that most of us already spend a fair bit of time sitting each day, yoga asana is a wonderful antidote for those shapes, helping you create more ease, comfort and mobility around important areas such as the hips, lower back and shoulders!
Alongside that, yoga also guides you towards better breathing techniques, as well as more mindful attention and focus, invaluable for your time on the bike, as well as in everyday life.
COHERENCE
Coherence is the state where the heart, mind, and body move in the same direction. That unmistakable feeling when your breath suddenly lands somewhere true. When your intuition speaks clearly instead of getting lost in static. When your body softens because it recognises safety. When what you think, feel, and choose are no longer in conflict.
In a time that’s asking so much of our nervous system, coherence has become a necessity. Pulled in a hundred different directions mentally, emotionally and energetically, we’re constantly absorbing noise, expectation, and collective intensity. Yet beneath it all, our deeper intelligence is always inviting us back into spiritual alignment, into coherence.
This cacao and sound journey is an invitation to reinstate coherence. To let your heart lead again. To re-enter the frequency where clarity appears, healing accelerates, and your energy begins to move in harmony. With the assistance of heart opening cacao come and recalibrate with presence, softness, and willingness that returns you home to yourself.
We are excited to be offering a new style class on the timetable which we know you will be excited about, because you’ve been asking for it!
YG Strength!
YG Strength classes are steady, intentional classes designed to complement your yoga practice by building strength, tone, and stability throughout the body.
Using a mix of hand weights, resistance bands, blocks, and bodyweight movement, the sessions will focus on controlled repetition and time under tension to develop muscle, coordination, and endurance.
You’ll move with purpose and awareness — training not just for strength, but for balance, mobility, and resilience.
Expect a full-body workout, including core work. The movements and exercises will vary dependent on the teacher. While some familiar postures may appear, this isn’t a yoga class — it’s strength training delivered with the same grounded, considered approach that underpins all our movement offerings. As always at Yoga Ground, you will be offered options for different levels of strength and fitness and are encouraged and expected to do what feels right for your body.
Perfect for anyone looking to feel stronger, more supported, and more connected in their body.
The classes will run for 45 minutes, followed by an optional 5-10 minute stretch and cool down.
Places in these classes are limited due to the equipment required so late cancels (within 3 hours of class) will be charged our $10 fee and no shows will have the class deducted from their pass.

Ever feel unsure about Sun Salutations or Vinyasa transitions — wondering if you’re doing them “right” or safely?
Or maybe your wrists, shoulders, or lower back don’t feel great during these sequences?
Sun Salutations and Vinyasa movements are foundational and frequently repeated in flow-based yoga classes. But the pace at which we typically move through them can make it difficult to fully understand the postures and transitions — or to move in a way that truly serves your body.
In this workshop, we’ll break down key postures and transitions commonly found in Vinyasa, including Chaturanga Dandasana (Four-Limbed Staff Pose) and Urdhva Mukha Svanasana (Upward-Facing Dog).
Join Jess Atkinson for a deeply restorative and transformative 2.5 hour workshop designed to awaken your body's natural ability to heal. Blending ancient practices and modern techniques, this experience will gently guide you into a state of energetic balance, uplifted emotions, and expanded consciousness - healing yourself from the inside out!
Through a carefully curated journey, you’ll be supported to release stuck energy, reconnect with your body’s intelligence, and restore harmony across mind, body, and spirit.

SELF LOVE
Because we are conditioned to believe that SELF LOVE is egoic, it can be one of hardest undertakings to wrap our head and heart around. Yet given that we’re ALL connected, to truly LOVE ourselves unconditionally (including all the bits that we struggle with) is to help all life on earth do the same. As an unselfish act of SELF LOVE, come and enjoy a warm, transformative ceremony that will start you on the road to a practice that helps us all to develop and share inner peace and joy.
Rooted in Stillness – Finding Tadasana in every pose, every breath, every movement
Join us for an immersive yoga workshop that explores the deep, meditative potential of movement through the lens of Tadasana—Mountain Pose. Often seen as the simplest posture, Tadasana is the blueprint for all asana, embodying balance, stability, and presence. In this workshop, we will journey beyond form and alignment to discover how the essence of Tadasana can be found in every pose, every transition, every breath.
This will be an afternoon of some of Neal’s most cherished (and practical) practices, cultivated through the years of personal practice and teaching Yoga and iRest Yoga Nidra.
In this workshop, we are invited to connect to our ground of BEING through experiencing our feeling body and our breathing body. Within a safe and kind space, we may become more sensitive to our body’s sensations, to the natural and easeful flow of our breath, and be able to rest and be nourished within our essential nature.
The afternoon will include:
Gentle movement and self-care practices to release tension and stress.
Restorative Yoga practices to further soften and prepare for …
… Meditation and iRest® Yoga Nidra orientated to experience BEING.
This course, led by studio owner, Kara Sweney, is designed for absolute beginners to yoga, who may never have stepped foot on a yoga mat, or into a studio before.
We meet on six consecutive Mondays from 715-825pm. The course aims to introduce you to a studio environment, the terminology, tools and the fundamentals of the practice of Yoga - basic postures and movement and the importance of breath. We want to "break the ice" on Yoga for you and equip you with the knowledge and some confidence to join the classes on our timetable.
