Tea is one of the fundamental herbs in Chinese medicine and has a long and intertwined history with meditation, Zen and Taoism. Tea is a source of connection; connection to silence, connection to ourselves, connection to people in our lives and to the world we inhabit. A Tea Ceremony is a wonderful opportunity to make space for this connection.

Join Sam from Cloud Hidden to experience this unique meditative practice and discover why this plant is so central in the cultivation of mindfulness. Sam lived in a zen monastery in Taiwan for three years studying his path.

The first half of the session will be spent in the Tea Ceremony, experiencing the mind that arises during this practice. During the second half there will be a 30 minute talk on “The Way of Tea” - we will introduce the history and context of why this practice is so deeply linked to human life and how it can an important aid in cultivating the meditative mind.

Perhaps you will see clearly that there is a cloud floating in your tea. Without a cloud, there will be no rain; without rain, there is no water; and without water, we cannot make tea. The cloud is essential for the tea to exist and yet it is hidden from our sight. The clay from the teapot is of the earth. The sun is required to grow the tea trees. Within the simple act of making tea lies something deeper. This herb has always been a medicine in the East. A space to re-connect the human life to their place within the world. But somehow this was all lost along the way. Cloud Hidden seeks to return us back to that place and offers the chance to explore the experience and philosophy of Tea as a Mindfulness practice.
