Meditation teaches us to quieten the ramblings of the mind, to quell that ever present jumping, agitated quality of the mind. We then experience a state of being where the mind is quiet. And why would we want to do this?
The most obvious answer is we feel very peaceful, so calm! when the mind is quiet. Meditation can feel like one massive sigh, a let-go, an absolute state of non-doing, just BEING. Our essential nature is one of absolute calm and tranquility but like dust on a mirror the noisy mind hides this true nature.
With meditation we become more balanced emotionally, more centred, better able to deal with the traumas that life throws at us - we feel more at ease, more clear. On a spiritual level, meditation awakens us to our divine nature; it reveals who we are beyond the conditioned egocentric mind and body. It leads to a deeper connection with existence and a realisation of Oneness with all that is.
